Involuntary offboarding includes: dismissals, redundancy, end of contract. Always involve the People Team early​. Involuntary exits carry higher compliance and legal risk​.

  • Always speak to the People Team before taking any action. Do not dismiss without their support.

  • Confirm the reason for termination (performance, redundancy, misconduct, end of contract).

  • The People Team will advise on legal, contractual, and country specific requirements.

  • People Team will provide​ any required local legal documents​ and scripting.

  • Any formal or exit meetings should be held with a member of the People Team present.

  • Ensure IT is informed to restrict system access at the right time.

  • Work with your People Partner on sensitive internal comms to ensure the team is informed appropriately.

Country Specific Information

Germany: termination must be sent in writing with a ‘wet’ signature

US: Termination processes must comply with state and federal law​. Final pay check timing varies by state.
